Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne

The Social Action Committee’s goal is to help UUCFW members & friends live out UU Social Justice principles and give back to our community.  We:

Organize donations to “Third Sunday Collection” nonprofits and learn about the important work these local nonprofits do;

Support Wellspring Interfaith Social Services through donations to their food banks, Summer Day Camp program, and their other initiatives;

Provide opportunities to volunteer in the community and stand up for injustices (Interfaith Build, cleaning the Maumee River, cookout for Wellspring Food Bank recipients); and

Provide opportunities to learn about other UUA initiatives such as Standing on the Side of Love and Compassionate Consumption.

On the third Sunday of each month, there is a ‘Social Action hour’ for all members and friends before the service which consists of activities, discussion, and speakers.  The Committee meets the first Sunday of the month directly after service to organize our work.  If you are interested in helping with the work of the committee or being a members, please join us!

Friday, April 19 - Breaking the Silence event - Standing against LGBTQ bullying

The Day of Silence is an event that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying, and harassment in schools.  Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.  The goal is to illustrate the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBT students and those perceived to be LGBT.
