  • 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Our Congregation

The founders of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne gathered together for the first time over 75 years ago, in 1939.  They sought to bring the principles of liberal religion to the city and  surrounding communities.  In the intervening years, we have grown from  the 27 charter members to a membership well beyond that.

We offer a warm, open, and inclusive religious community where people of all ages can meet in their search for answers to the big questions in  life. We seek to enrich our lives and our spirits by joining together for celebration, social action and service, friendship, and support.

We are a religious community which welcomes people of all ethnicities, all colors, affectional orientations, different physical and mental  capabilities, and religious backgrounds who wish to join with us in our quest for truth and meaning.

Our Mission

As a Unitarian Universalist congregation, our mission is to create a spiritual community that inspires growth, seeks knowledge, accepts differences and deepens compassion to build a just world.

Tag line: Inspire. Seek. Accept. Deepen.

From our Bylaws, information about Membership

    Article 3: Membership

    3.1 Requirements of Membership:

Membership in this congregation is open to any person eighteen years of age or older who is in sympathy with our purpose.  Membership is open to all, regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or physical ability.

    3.2 Method of Joining

    To join, prospective members shall

      • Attend orientation session(s) provided by the Membership Committee and the Minister.
      • Respond to a request for an annual financial contribution of record.
      • Sign the membership book.  New members become voting members three months after signing the book.

    3.3 Continuing Membership:

Membership status is maintained by participating in the life of the congregation and by responding to a request for an annual financial contribution of record.  Individuals who may have extenuating financial circumstances can meet privately with the Minister to develop a contingency plan.

These requirements for membership shall be published in the newsletter periodically and in the directories.

    3.4 Termination:

Membership may be terminated by the member’s written resignation, by the member’s oral statement to the Minister or the President, or by vote of the Board of Trustees when the member has moved away or cannot be located.

Following the canvass any members who have not responded shall be sent a letter inquiring about their intent to remain a member.  The member will have thirty days to respond prior to the December board meeting.

Each December, the Board of Trustees shall determine those members who, during the preceding year, have not met the requirements of continuing membership as defined above.

    • 3.4.1 Termination for Cause
In the rare event that a member’s behavior is found to be disruptive to the good purposes of the congregation, the board will act in accordance with the congregation policy regarding disruptive behavior.
